INSIDE 9/11 (2 x 120)
Produced in 2005 for Towers Productions and the National Geographic Channel
This Emmy-nominated, critically acclaimed special presents a comprehensive look at the events that led to that tragic day. From the rise of radical Islam after the Soviet-Afghan war, to the missed red flags in the months before the attacks, to the towers falling in New York and the unforeseen consequences of the war in Iraq, Inside 9/11 presents the story of what we now know was an inexorable march towards cataclysm.
PART ONE: WAR ON AMERICA
Part One presents the story of the road to 9/11 as a chronology of plot points. A series of vignettes tracks the rise of Osama bin Laden, the transformation of radical Islam into an anti-American creed, and the evolution of devout Muslim students like Mohammed Atta into murderous terrorists. It also tells a parallel story: the fateful encounters, missed warnings and botched missions that comprise the failure of American intelligence agencies to stop the attacks.
